The Five Limbs of Panchanga
In Vedic astrology, every moment carries a unique signature defined by the Panchanga — five subtle measures of time. Understanding these allows you to navigate life with precision.
Tithi — The Lunar Day
Tithi represents the angular relationship between the Sun and Moon. Each of the 30 tithis carries a distinct emotional and energetic quality. Some support beginnings, others favor completion, and some are best for rest and reflection.
Nakshatra — The Star Constellation
The 27 nakshatras are the moon mansions — star constellations that color every moment with specific energies. Each nakshatra has a ruling deity, a symbol, and a set of activities it supports or discourages.
Yoga — The Special Combination
Yoga is calculated from the combined movement of the Sun and Moon. There are 27 yogas, each creating a unique energetic theme for the day — from auspicious to challenging.
Karana — The Half-Day Period
Karana divides each tithi into two halves, creating 11 types that influence the practical outcome of any action taken during that period.
Vaara — The Weekday
Each day is ruled by a planet. Sunday belongs to the Sun (leadership), Monday to the Moon (emotions), Tuesday to Mars (action), Wednesday to Mercury (communication), Thursday to Jupiter (wisdom), Friday to Venus (beauty), Saturday to Saturn (discipline).
